THE WOMAN IN BLACK
Appointed by the novel by Susan Hill, which has also been adapted into opera stage show, "The Woman in Black" is the latest production of the legendary horror film company Hammer, who also produced the successful Swedish film remake, "Let Me In" in 2010.
The horror genre is rising in recent years, so it is not surprising that many Hollywood stars who are looking for a reputation, like the lead role in a film that aims to frighten, to spread the feel cold, and sometimes inadvertently provoke humor the audience.
A rising teen actor after Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe, eager to show the world that he is more than just a "Harry Potter". And he managed to prove it in the lead role as Arthur Kipps, a lawyer from a widow who also lost his wife during the birth of their son, Joseph. The boss sent him to a deserted village in the UK to help resolve legal issues for clients who had recently died. But things got awkward when Arthur met a ghost who resembles a woman dressed all in black, and even more horrifying when the children in the village was suddenly dying mysteriously.
Despite the horror genre, but The Woman in Black thankfully avoiding bloody scenes are gratuitous as is the case in horror movies made today, but unfortunately with a weak plot and frightening elements are manipulated with techniques that seem cheap so it impressed laughable. However, the director Watkins and his team intend to prolong it seems more scenes of "tense" is, and at all rule out the element of depth stories.
Although the story line is only one-dimensional and uninspired, but The Woman in Black remains entertaining and deserves recognition if just for a scary cinematography and strong supporting characters, namely Ciaran Hinds and Janet McTeer. Broadly speaking, the film is a blend of the horror genre with the feel of a classic Victorian style.
